There’s something truly magical about stepping into a family’s world to capture their first precious moments together.

My session with the Shluter family—Demi, Steven, baby Miles, and their ever-curious pup—was a beautiful reminder of the joy and connection these early days bring.

Demi and Steven’s Brisbane home was a photographer’s dream, with its warm tones, dark wood accents, and a touch of eclectic charm. Demi’s love for plants shone through in her stunning greenhouse out back, adding a unique touch to their space. The overcast day gave the session a moody, nostalgic feel, perfectly complementing the family’s style.

These candid moments made for some truly heart-melting photos.

The session unfolded naturally, with soft light spilling into the main bedroom and nursery. Baby Miles, snug in his cot, was never far from the watchful gaze of their pup, who peeked through the slats in the sweetest way. A highlight was capturing the family out front of their home—a snapshot of this special chapter in their lives. It was a quiet, heartfelt moment that told the story of their new beginnings.

With newborn sessions, I always follow the baby’s pace—there’s no rush when it comes to feeding, soothing, or cuddles. For the Shluters, this meant a series of tender moments: one-on-one snuggles with mum and dad, quiet family cuddles, and the little details that make life with a newborn so rich. Connection is always at the heart of what I aim to capture, and this session was no exception.

Watching Demi and Steven navigate parenthood with such grace was inspiring. Their attentiveness to baby Miles, and to each other, was a beautiful testament to their bond. These first moments as a family of three (well, four, counting the pup!) are so fleeting, and I feel incredibly privileged to have preserved them through my lens.
